The Art of Living HIV Course

rt of Living offers a wide variety of specialized courses, including one for people who have been diagnosed as having HIV-1 infection.

Mind/body medicine encompasses a wide variety of methodologies, some of them coming from very ancient traditions. One of the oldest of these is the Vedic tradition of India. This ancient knowledge about gaining optimal health is brought into the present time by the Art of Living HIV course. In this specially tailored program, participants experience the health-enhancing effects of Sudarshan Kriya® technique (and related breathing practices) and are provided with a wealth of skills, practical knowledge, and information about the Art of Living HIV .

In an Art of Living pilot research study, individuals living with HIV-1 infection, participated in an extended Art of Living HIV course. Results of that study were determined by in-depth self-report questionnaires.

Participants reported:

Condition:

Percent Reporting Improvement:

Swollen Lymph Nodes

71%

Chronic Pain

83%

Digestive Problems

88%

Shortness of Breath

77%

Low Energy

50%

Lack of Inner Peace

Diminished Mental Clarity/Alertness

63%

Participants also reported a reduction in fear, feelings of depression, and loneliness. Based on the results of this study, as well as independent studies , the Art of Living HIV course appears to hold great promise as a therapeutic complement to traditional HIV treatment. In addition, the techniques learned on the Art of Living HIV course have been shown to significantly reduce the stress hormone, cortisol - a very important finding for those living with HIV-1 infection, since reducing cortisol levels can help improve immune system function.

"Soon after I began daily practice of the Art of Living techniques in April, 1996, I began noticing improvements in both my physical and mental health. My blood pressure dropped from borderline high to normal. My eight years' requirement for the extraordinarily expensive Immune Globulin (IVIG) every three weeks dropped to every four weeks, my platelets remain at their highest level since diagnosis, and I shed a 40-year stress-induced habit of nail biting without any conscious effort. I am convinced that my good health since then is due largely to my learning and continuing to practice these techniques."

        AIDS Service Organization Director

"Practice of the Art of Living techniques dissolves the side-effects of the medicines I take. It eliminates anxiety and nausea and gives me more energy."
      --Michael B.
